Samsung Develops 150MP Camera
Samsung has already released its 108MP camera sensor which can be found in two of the current flagship devices, Xiaomi Mi 10 and Galaxy S20Ultra. They have already completed their R&D of 150MP camera sensor which could be available as early as second half of this year.
It is going to be a big 1" sensor, similar as in Sony RX100 cameras, which is noticeably larger than the 1/1.33" sized sensor used in ISOCELL Bright HMX 108MP sensor. Previously the largest sensor in smartphones record was held by Nokia Pureview 808 with its 1/1.2" sensor.
150MP camera with large sensor coming this year
Like the current 108MP sensor, the new 150MP sensor will also use the nonacell pixel binning technology, 9 pixels combined to form 1 pixel, resulting in a 16MP photographs. For reference, Galaxy S20Ultra gives a 12MP image while the Xiaomi Mi 10 with its tetracell pixel binning outputs a 27MP image.
Xiaomi is supposedly the first company to use this 150MP camera sensor, launching tentatively in Q4 2020 while Oppo and Vivo will follow the suit in 1st half 2021. Most probably Samsung will use this first in their Galaxy S21 series devices.
