Galaxy S20+ DXOMARKED!
DxOMark recently scored the most expensive device in the Galaxy S lineup - S20 Ultra, it got a commendable score of 122 overall, this time around the second best of the lineup has been put through its mettle. S20+ scored an overall score of 118, which places it tenth in the evergrowing list of smartphones. Just a reminder, the S20+ uses a 12MP primary camera with a large 1.6um pixels, there is no pixel binning here. The telephoto us a 64MP camera with no optical zooming capabilities whatsoever, an ultrawide 12MP lens and a 0.3MP lens for portrait shots.
This score actually triumphs the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max and the Galaxy S10+ 5G, the photography score of 127 shows the key strength of the device - great photos! The device was praised for its excellent exposure, wide dynamic range, vivid colors and exceptional ultra-wide capabilities.
Better than Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max
As expected of the 64MP telephoto lens without the tele part, the resultant cropped images lack the sharpness of its bigger sibling. As DXOMARK states, details are softer in medium and long range zoom shots. Though the 0.3MP time of flight sensor helped to garner a good reputation for portrait shots.
On the video front, high details, good dynamic range, fast autofocus and good object tracking helped to up the video score, while presence of some noise low light videos were the culprit of lowering the score.
All in all, the Galaxy S20+ is a very good camera performer which is more than enough for most users, hopefully Samsung will update the camera processing further improving the already great results.
